Gear Grinder 09 Kansas City

Couple of weekends ago, I was a vendor at the Gear Grinder carshow in my hometown of Kansas City, MO. Saturday turned out a pretty decent crowd, I was painting all day. The show was held at Knuckleheads, a very fun venue.

Here is my biscayne, her name is Karmilla she got to KC about three weeks ago. There is already hours of work put into it, although you may not be able to tell that yet, but its coming together. I ripped all the nasty interior out and vacuumed out all the dead wasps nest from the interior trim. She sat in a barn for about 8 years so you can imagine the dirt factor. I pinstriped part of the dash last week....pictures to come soon!

I know I am the worst at updating my blog.....so here is a few photos of some recent work. I also am the proud owner of a 59 biscayne now, so that takes up a lot of my time, I will post photos of the progression on that as well!

Off the radar

So I have been fairly off the radar for the past year. I blame my lack of updating on my defunct laptop which magically decided to start working again about two weeks ago. I spent the last year working in an automotive repair shop, and while its handy to know how to fix cars, its not something that I can realistically see myself doing for any prolonged period of time. I keep getting called back to customs and body work, which fit with pinstriping pretty darn well. I'm making it my goal to be at as many carshows as possible this show season so I will be surely updating my blog with new work very very soon. I have alot of stuff that I haven't been able to publish because of my computer. And for christmas my mom bought me a digital camera!! So, I digress, the point of this blog is that im back in the swing of things.

This is the latest job, I have the next 3 weekends booked up so I will be posting more soon! I had a lot of fun with this chair, it's gold vinyl (if you can't tell).

Okay so I have a new idea for a photo shoot I would like to do. I have been wanting to make some who I am/what I do post cards for a while. I get a lot of people who don't understand what pinstriping is, and rightly so I wouldn't know what it meant either. Anyhow, I would like to replicate this photo I found of Kenneth Howard a.k.a Von Dutch. I think it would be cool because it would be a gender reversal, and it would pay homage to the guy who pretty much invented modern day pinstriping. Sorry the photo is kind of blurry, it was the only copy I could find...but you get the idea.

doorjams

.

And...here are the doorjam photos as promised.

My new boyfriend

Okay, here is that tan purse finished. I discovered that it does not stay shut once you put a bunch of stuff in it. Sorry (Jesse) but I can't sell this one. That really is a shame, it's like having kids (not that I would know anything about that) you like all of them, but secretly you know there has to be a favorite somewhere in the group. Plus, it's great advertising.

Scuba tank finished

I got the second color finished on this one Thursday night, and I just got the photos back! I am really happy with the way this one turned out. I had kind of a slow weekend, no custom jobs. I did however paint a mess of handbags for my good friend kip's shop Solaris Massage. I painted the doorjams on my car this weekend. Those pictures will be up soon, it started getting dark and I couldn't get a decent shot.

Handbags and more handbags

I have some handbags available at Solaris Massage in the River Market. (106 East 5th St. B/T Walnut and Grand). I have sold all but three! I have been working on some more lately but this one I have a really soft spot for. You don't really see too many vintage tan bags, plus my mom found it for me. :) It's begging for a second color, I think I might have to add this one to my collection.

Another Custom Handbag

This is another custom order i'm working on. She requested pink and green stripes, half done more to come!

Scuba tank

Here is the scuba tank I have been working on...I still need to add the second color, i'm planning on using process blue. I'll upload another picture of the end result.

Floor Tom

The third job I had this weekend was for the drummer of the Mokan Flames. His floor tom is red glitterflake. I loooove glitterflake finishes. His only requirements were orange and red striping, another great customer.

Another job I had this weekend was my good friend Joshua's Carburetor. He chose red and black, which happens to be my favorite color combination. He is the proud owner of a 1964 Chevy c-10 pickup. We are planning to stripe the entire thing once the primer is applied. I think this turned out pretty good, it was a really really small surface to work on, and there were a few jagged places, but all-in-all a good end product.

I had a few jobs this weekend, one of them was a custom job for the lovely Seagren. She gave me a vintage black patent leather purse to work on, the only requirements being that it be pumpkin orange and white. These are probably my favorite jobs, when they have a general idea of what they want. I really like hearing I don't know, whatever you think looks good. My dog really liked this purse too.
